AH! Summertime!

I don't have a clue why - but the teenage boys in this house want to stay up all night and sleep all day! They like to play video games, and communicate with their friends on "My Space". I have tried to reason with them. Why don't they just go to bed at midnight or so, then get up early and play their games? Nope - for some reason they want to stay up until 0430 or 0530, then go to bed and sleep until the afternoon. I don't get it, when they stay up all night, they have to be quiet, to not wake up the moms. Last night I admonished them about the laughing and the noise. They are both good boys, and I have nothing to complain about. I try not to nag the hell out of them, but at the same time, I feel like it is my job to keep them on the straight and narrow path. I try to remember that next year they will be working in the summer, and that they should enjoy their childhood as long as possible. Maybe I am too easy on them, but I know that they will only be young for a short time. I also have allowed my son to grow his hair long for the first time this year. He is sixteen, and I am trying to let him make his own decisions about these things. Soon he will be getting his driver's license, another scary event! This mom thing is a lot more worrisome than I originally thought it would be!

LOL...your account reminds me of my older sister when she was a teenager. We shared a room, so it drove me crazy! It wasn't a problem for her until the new school year rolled around and she had to adjust to "normal" hours. I'm sure your boys will grow out of it just like my sister did.

Our youngest (Kathy) was like that. Drove us crazy! She hasn't really outgrown it I'm sorry to say. She still gets up around noon most days I think. She's working nights in a restaurant, so she keeps late hours by necessity, unfortunately. She did much better when she was selling real estate. Wish she was still doing that.
I've really enjoyed catching up on your posts. Sounds like a great holiday. We spent a week touring the Smithsonian and mall in DC in Sept. of 2004. Loved every minute of it. Didn't get to the Hirshorn museum though. My hubby likes all the other stuff better. I'm with you on modern art...don't understand it, but find it interesting. Nice to see your son :) Enjoyed all your photos.

Staying up all night and sleeping til noon seems to be normal for some teens. One of my daughters was like that as a teen, but she grew out of it. My grandson does the same thing and will have to adjust to a proper sleeping schedule once he gets a job.

I hear this complaint from mother's of teens a lot. I frankly think they are sleeping their summer away...at least the daylight hours.
Maybe if you make a rule that no one sleeps past 9am they will make the adjustment and start going to bed earlier...just maybe.

Keep the no word for the big things. My mom did not make me do a lot. She told my dad that I would have a a lot of work in my future. She was right.

I understand what you are saying Tuff, I think. Momhood is a lot tuffer than originally appeared. That's probably a good thing, actually! I seem to be the only "morning" person in my family - both hubby and son are confirmed night folk. Makes for interesting "clashes", as my system is totalling shutting down just when they are revving up! Ahh well...

I don't know why teenagers like to stay up all night like that. Mine did (and do.) Heck, I did, too. If it wasn't for working, I'd probably still be doing it.
