Hawk attack

Now who would believe this! Yesterday morning I was in my backyard feeding the pigeons and I decided to let them go for a fly. I opened the large cage door and they all flew free. I didn't see (forgot to look) the hawk up in the tree. The 800 acres behind my subdivision is being developed and the hawks are losing their habitat. They "hunt" now in my yard looking for big fat pigeons. I was walking back up to the house after letting the birds out and all of a sudden something hit me hard on the head. It felt like it grabbed my hair, and it almost knocked me down. I looked up to see a hawk flying away. He had swooped down on me (maybe thinking that I was a pigeon!) and flew away so fast that it was amazing. If not for the scratches on my scalp no one would have believed me. Later on in the morning, a small branch fell out of the oak tree on to my head. I grabbed my head thinking that the bird had returned! I think tomorrow when I go in the backyard I will wear a construction hardhat!

Oh no! You are under attack by animal and object!

Hope that's the last of the onslaughts from above!

Poor pidgens. I used to have to make a top on my chicken cages so the hawks wouldn't snatch them. I refused to kill the hawks. Hopefully it won't attack you again. Maybe that one of it's young ones was near by.

I'm amazed that a hawk would do that Tuff! You'd be a pretty big pidgeon. It must've been really hungry :) Or perhaps it's a hawk with poor eyesight :)
Anyway, I think the hardhat is a good idea! Great story!
We had 76ยบ yesterday. Pure joy!!
Hope things have calmed down for you.

Oh, no, it's The Birds Revisited. The original film took place in Bodega Bay, CA. The remake takes place in a town in FL and the protagonist is an ex-cop who just wants to take care of her pigeons. Getting pecked on the head by a feisty hawk is pretty scary stuff. Just make sure you look around really closely the next time you go out to take care of your birds. (I think that hawk was trying to get your attention.)

What a story! We dont seem to have hawks who attack here, but the Magpies can be quite savage in Spring.

HOLY COW!

We worry about our little toy dachshund "MOOSE" when we go up to Beaver...
we watch her like a HAWK!!
Our biggest fear is a hawk will swoop down and snatch her.. she's only 6 or 7 pounds....

WOW...I've seen a hawk swoop down and grab my daughter's pet bullfrog and she threw such a fit that it scared the hawk, so he dropped her frog.
I witnessed a hawk swoop down and grab a very young kitten from someone's driveway and fly away with it...but never have I seen a hawk attack anyone. Be Careful!
There's a hawk living nearby because I see it flying overhead quite a bit here.

I'm still laughing at Kerri's comment.

Yesterday a hawk hit me in my head while the hawk was chasing a bird.

I came across this post while doing a Google search on 'Hawk Attack'. I pulled my truck off the side of a road to take pictures of a hawk and her baby on a nest this morning. I guess I overstayed my welcome. She dive-bombed me (screeching all the while) three times before I could get back to my truck. That rattled my nerves quite a bit. I was totally unprepared for that.

Yours was quite the wild story. Talk about having a bad day.
