Busy with the Band

On the past two Saturdays we have been attending the band competitions. In the Largo competition the band won First Place in Class 1-A, Best Drum Major, and Best Auxiliary. The next weekend in the Tampa competition, the band won First Place in Class 1-A, Best Music caption, Best General Effect caption, Best Visual caption, Best Percussion caption.

The PHS band is a small band, with only 60 total members (that includes auxiliary flags & dancers). There was a record high in Tampa last Saturday, and when they took the field at 3:30 PM, the temp gauge read 99 degrees. They went out there like troopers in those hot polyester uniforms and gave it their all, putting on an awesome show. All the parents were screaming them on to victory.
Next weekend we start over again at another competition.

Great job! And great pictures, too. Congrats to all the hard working musicians. And kudos to all the parents for their support. And I am sure the colorful BandWagon was there, too. I bet none of the other schools have such a good looking instrument-hauler!

Ah, the life of a band booster. Those kids deserve every honor they earn. I know how thrilling it is to see your kids out there performing on the field, and I know how white-knuckling it is for the parents who want their kids to succeed. Good for them for playing and performing in the band. And good for the parents for all the traveling and support shown for these good kids.

I tear up every time you proudly post your kids and the band. Thanks for plucking this beautiful note memory in me. If it weren't for my involvement in band from middle school through college, I don't think I would have made it through adolescence.

Strut a little Mom - maybe let out a crow or two - when parents support their children's endevers it is a wonderful thing. Great pictures.
