This is the first time I have ever had a flower garden. I have a nice area right outside my bedroom window. I put up a cute wrought iron fence to keep the dogs out of it. (the dogs think they own this place!) I hope the garden survives. I had help picking out the plants because some can be in the hot Florida sun and others need to be in partial shade. Anyway, I can't even pronouce some of the plant names, but I like the way they look. I will see if I can keep them alive! I am watering everyday, and using Miracle Grow fertilizer once a week. I know that I have created MORE work for myself, but it should be fun!

Looks great! There's nothing like a garden to look at and tend to for relaxation and to boost your spirits. Good luck with it!
I love your sundial...I always wanted to put one in the middle of the yard, in direct sunlight...But instead I have a flat one (on the ground) in partial shade.
And of course, it won't work that way.
I love your area...I love to make areas in my yard...Like having your own little hideaways. I need to plant more big bushes for cover though.
Put some water plants in your pool...they have some great flowering water plants...And what's great about those is THEY DON'T NEED WATERING.
I love your little garden space! The sundial is lovely. And your choice of color is great. I agree with abandoned in pasadena, a few waterplants will actually do your pool good and keep the water fresher, and if you put in a siamese fighting fish, he will eat any mosquito larvae that pops in. And he breaths air, so you don't need a pump.
I just found a little verse from my 1892 Whittier's Poems book. It was written and inscribed on one of his friends sundials. It goes...
With warning hand I mark Time's rapid flight
From life's glad morning to its solemn night;
Yet, through the dear God's love, I also show
There's Light above me by the Shade below.
The underwater grasses also are oxigenating and provide air in the water for any fish. We don't use a pump or filtering system in our watergarden anymore...the plants provide all the oxygen the fish need.
The only reason we removed our fountain sprinkler was because our cats kept knocking it over and almost emptying our pond of water.
Puffstitch...thanks for the name of the fish that eats mosquito larvae. Right now we drop those mosquito tablets into the water every 2 weeks.
I just found your blog and can't wait to start at the beginning and read it.
Looks like you recieved a lot of good advice so the only thing left for me to say is go for it - your little nook of a garden is lovely and I love the fence to keep the dogs out - guess were they would be getting a drink!
What fun you're going to have in your garden! You've made a great start and it's looking very pretty. The sundial adds a lot of character. A nice spot to relax!
cute! I love the sundial!!
