The gym
My son and I started going to the gym. He needed to get a couple of muscles since he has never been athletic, and he is as "skinny as a rail". He has to be in shape to carry that big tuba. The fitness center had a two for one membership, and I was going as his coach anyway, so we signed up. I had forgotten that there is pain involved. Self induced pain, you know - "no pain - no gain". It has been years since I have been in a gym, but all the hate of the place quickly returns! I have been grunting through the torture machines, and encouraging my son to do "just one more rep". He is working on his upper body, and starting to show some muscles in his chest and arms for the first time in his life. He has gained about four pounds since we started, so it is doing some good. We just have to keep going every other day.

Go girl....girl!!! I can't believe I'm saying this, but I miss the gym. My upperbody workouts now consist of toting big jugs of water up the ridge to the cabins, clearing fallen branches off the trails and carrying firewood. Don't get me wrong...it's incredible, but how I long for a few repetitions on a shiny machine!
Thanks for the comment T2T; I guess things could be worse. Sounds like they don't have running water in the cabins(?)Hey, get one of the big branches, balance it on your shoulders with jugs of water on each end, put on some wooden clogs. I am getting dutch girl vision of you!
Maybe after awhile you'll enjoy the gym more, as you start to see your muscles bulging! Good on you for dragging yourself along.
I've been going to lift weights for about 2 years now (just twice a week)and it has really improved my shape (from very pear to mildly pear!), plus I love feeling stronger! Sort of a 'girl power' feeling!
Must admit I do get bored with the actual lifting, though :)
Too funny...I'm afraid I would fall flat on my can in wooden clogs, but thanks for the visual!
